Project Description
Atlit Ridge is located approximately 15 km south of Haifa, adjacent to the Khirbet Qarta nature reserve and east of the Atlit Fortress National Park. Three known contamination sites exist: the "Permut" wood preservation plant site (with an adjacent wood drying area), a waste site, and a former military camp.
In these areas, soil surveys were conducted by environmental firms. Through drilling, these surveys yielded unequivocal findings indicating that the site is contaminated and requires comprehensive remediation.
According to the analyses, the soil contaminants identified were heavy metals (such as arsenic and trivalent chromium), fuel components, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chromate, lead, copper, zinc, and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH).
As part of the project, Olenik carried out remediation at several locations on the site, including the "Permut" factory structure, electrified wooden poles, and soil identified as contaminated in the factory's vicinity due to its operational activities.
In total, Olenik Company removed approximately 40,000 tons.
